Why did you choose a Volkswagen?
I chose a VW because it seemed to fit the profile of the type of car I was looking for. It is decently quick without sounding like a tin can when you close the doors. I wasn’t looking for a 337 in particular but when I saw this car for sale in BC I knew I had to have it and I drove out the next week to pick it up.
How long did it take for you to complete modifying the car to a certain level of satisfaction?
It’s been approximatly two years of modifying and so far there is no end in sight. With a lot of my friends building similar cars it makes it hard to stop.
What sort of future modifications (if any) are you planning?
I have new wheels that I’m currently using as a coffee table in my living room that will be going on before the end of September. I’m also just waiting on adapters. They are VMR VB3 18×8.5 et20 and 18×9.5 et25. The next big modification will most likely be a bigger turbo setup once I figure out the route I want to go with it.
What do you do job wise? Student? Career? Full-Time? Part-Time?
I am a 4th year bio-science student at the U of C and I have a part time job at a local boat dealership.
What are your thoughts on the Calgary car scene?
The Calgary car scene is quite large considering the population size and the short summer season. The past two years have seen a lot of influence from internet sites such as Canibeat and Fatlace, 2-3 years ago wheel offsets were very mild and stretched tires were almost unheard of so it’s cool to see something different. I also find the Calgary scene to be very inviting, new comers always feel welcome and there is a lot of encouragement rather than criticism going on. People seem to be involved for the love of cars rather than trying to “one-up” the other guys. You do what you can with what you have and a lot of people respect that.
What shops do you take your car to here in Calgary?
I try to do as much of the work myself as I possibly can but I do take my car to Tunedub and British Auto Specialists.
