Janx Predicts Movie Scores – August Results
About two months ago I took on a challenge to predict the final scores five movies would receive from various critics over the course of a month. You can click here to see that post.
I did quite well my first month with a 98% accuracy in my predictions. Sadly, I don’t think this month will fair so well.
To reiterate the basic rules and guidelines I set:
To calculate the final score I will be using three of the largest movie review websites available: IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. I will average out the final score one week after each movie has been released and then you’ll all get to laugh at how far off I was. Oh and every 5 points I am off from the average score there will be some form of punishment invoked by the other editors.
So, without further ado I gladly give you my results for the month of August:
I got lucky with this one. I was really worried it would excite the old men critics far too much having all the over-the-top action stars together in one film… and it did. I was going to give this a much lower score than I did, but I compensated for the old man critics poorly aimed excitement and it payed off

Result:
Bang on.
I didn’t think Scott pilgrim would be as good as it was. I had faith in the director though which is why I gave it the highest score of the month and it turned out being just that, the highest scored movie of the month.

That’s not the only reason I’m giving it a generous score. British director Edgar Wright has been hot property ever since he did Hot Fuzz and I’m counting on his hot streak to continue for this film.

Bang on.
Here it is. The worst score I’ve ever given to a movie and the farthest off I’ve ever been. Who’d have thunk Piranha 3D would end p being such a hit? I sure didn’t. I even compensated for all the idiots that would enjoy the film because of how poor it was and I was still miles off. Damn, this one’s on me.

Result:
Absolute Fail.
I didn’t think this was going to be a very good “mockumentary”. I called it a miss from the start but gave it a decent score because the director, Daniel Stamm, has done some really good work in the past. Technically speaking this was a very good film… it just wasn’t anything new or overly interesting.

I wasn’t that excited to see this movie. It looked like it was trying to be more than it actually was and it turned out to be just that. Sure it was an interesting idea and sure it had the potential to be great… but it fell on it’s face with some very mediocre acting and some downright hard-on-the-eyes to follow fight scenes. So close, yet so far away.

So, there you have it for August. I averaged a 95% accuracy with my predictions. Not quite as good as my 98% last month, but still pretty damn good if you ask me. I severely dropped the ball on apparently the biggest B-movie to come out in a while. Oh well, better luck next time.
PS – Still waiting to hear from anyone regarding a job as a critic of movie critics.
