Two grizzled overweight American forty year olds prove themselves a more effective fighting force than all the punks, cops and soldiers in the city. The gritty style of the singleplayer campaign, and the unique multiplayer offering makes Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days something worth playing if you are into stories of the filth laden underworld.

This is a story from my time spent as an embedded reporter with the Canadian Forces. I participated in the war games Western Defender and Total Ram of Suffield Alberta back in May 2009.

It was hands down the best fun I have ever had.

Generally light is one of the better inventions of the human race. Taking control of fire was a pretty big step for us. Now we’ve packaged it into all kinds of different shapes and sizes. Flares in particular. Hand held or launchable, parachute or marine, they’re all a source of light that can be taken into the harshest conditions and activated at a moments notice.

Russian games are a little like Russian girls: slightly broken, but with a fascinating spark that draws you in. The top five games to come out of the former Soviet empire are contained within. Jokes about how things are different in Soviet Russia are not included.

The gun culture is not a united front. There are all kinds of different sub-communities: big game hunters, cowboy action, mall ninjas, sportsmen, tactical shooters, duck hunters, home defense enthusiasts, antique collectors and skeet shooters.

In most video games, upgrading your weapon is a radicalizing affair. Over the course of the game you move from your basic rifle to a monstrosity of lasers and gadgets that is hell itself in your hand. I’m looking at the Call of Duty multiplayer right now and am simply astounded by the weird gun upgrades that are available to the players.

Where ammo is precious and making the choice between slug rounds or buckshot is one of real consequence. I played them all with a devotion I’d dare to label as cultish.
